About

Make. Explore. Create. Collaborate.

What do you want to make?

If the answer is a television programme, short film, podcast, radio drama, magazine or “any of the above,” then BLOC can help.

BLOC is a space for digital practice, creativity and collaboration that’s open to Arts and Humanities students and staff at the University of East Anglia.

Across our three facilities at UEA - the Media Suite, the TV Studio and Broadcast House – we support teaching and research in all areas of media creation, providing high-spec audio and video equipment, fully-featured editing and post-production facilities and a wealth of expertise.

Currently, BLOC supports audio, video and television production, podcasting, digitisation, radio drama, broadcasting, design and publishing. We are also expanding into 3D scanning and visualisation, gaming, augmented and virtual reality, and immersive media.

Who are we?

The BLOC technical team supports all three facilities. We are:

Sean Thompson, Technical and Facilities Manager
Nadine Zubair, Digital Humanities Manager
Andrew Bulmer, Media Production and Support Technician
Tristan Holden, Media Production and Support Technician
Alfie Kirk, Media Production and Support Technician
Ben Rodwell, Media Production and Support Technician

Why BLOC?

UEA is famous for its iconic brutalist architecture, which is solid, yet dynamic and future-thinking. Here at BLOC, we share those qualities. In fact, they’re where the inspiration for our name came from.

Our facilities are the building blocks for your creativity and innovative development. And, like the bricks that hold up UEA’s incredible brutalist structures, we work together, using collaboration and teamwork to create inspiring outputs.
